Visit Sligo

Here is some handy information if you are planning to visit Sligo for our festival. Sligo is a small, compact and easily walkable town, making it a great place to get around and explore.

Sligo sits astride the Garavogue river which flows from Lough Gill to the atlantic ocean. The town centre shows signs of it’s medieval origins and also contains many important archealogical sites from it’s earliest known settlements.

Beyond the town, the county offers stunning landscapes, coastal getaways and ancient mythical spots.

You can learn more about what Sligo offers from Ireland’s official tourism site Discover Ireland or for a locals perspective Magnum Lady has been blogging about Sligo’s tourist, cultural and foodie spots for many years.

Where to stay

It is worth noting that Sligo does not have a youth hostel or budget hotel in the town centre. There are plenty of hotels, B&Bs and self-catering options to chose from dotted around the town and in nearby suburbs.

Where to eat

There is a very wide selection of eateries within the town, from tasty pub grub and fine dining to casual cafes and much more. Five Spilt Milk faves are Le Fournil, Lyons Cafe, Blend, Flipside and  Rugantino.

Where to Drink

A good coffee is always essential and Sligo has plenty of options here namely Milligram, Rover Coffee Lab and Blend.

For some post-festival nightime drinks we heartily recommend Furey’s Pub, The Swagman and Shoot the Crows for a pint and good vibes.
